Mamie Ruth's Story
Ms. Ruth Corbett, age 89, of Jasper, FL. passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017 at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper, FL. Ruth was born in Lowndes County, Georgia on October 6, 1927 to the late John and Maude Cumbess Kirkland. She was a homemaker most of her life. Ruth was fiercely protective of those that she loved and cared for. One might guess that this started at a young age when twin sisters Mary and Martha came into the family. She was a natural caretaker and so, when her own little family grew with children and then grandchildren, it was natural that she would take on the world to protect them. She enjoyed spending every minute she had with her children and grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her husbands, Clyde Amerson, Sr., the father of her children and James Corbett whom she was blessed to spend her later years with; a son, Michael Amerson, Sr., her parents, John and Maude Kirkland; sisters, Mary Harris and Susan Herring; and four brothers, James, John, Manning and George Kirkland. Survivors include two sons, Clyde Amerson, Jr. (Melba), Jennings, FL. and Leon Amerson (Donna Harrison), Jasper, FL.; one daughter, Deloris Goodson, Palatka, FL.; one sister, Martha Grantham, Jasper, FL.; 13 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank all of the staff at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center for the love and care that Ruth received during her years as a resident. Your dedication will never be forgotten. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, FL. Interment followed at Hebron Cemetery. Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
