Leonard Ivey Harris, Sr., age 88, of White Springs, FL. passed away Monday evening, February 5, 2018 at his home. Leonard Ivey Harris was born November 4, 1929 near White Springs, FL. to the late Leonard and Rosa Inez Hunter Harris. In October of 1949 he was lucky enough to marry the love of his life Mary Rae Fouraker and they were blessed to shared 66 years of marriage together before her passing in 2015. Ivey worked for many years as an engineer with the Department of Transportation. Upon retirement from DOT, he decided on a second career as a corrections officer with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Once he decided to retire completely, Ivey started doing what he really loved and that was farming. He would tell you that was when he really went to work. When he wasn't farming, Ivey enjoyed fishing and hunting. He and his wife supported the Folk Life Days at Stephen Foster with their cane grinding exhibition for over 20 years until their health began to fail. Ivey was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his son, Leonard Ivey Harris, Jr. "Lanny", a granddaughter, Rebecca Hamm and a great granddaughter, Ivey Lynn Walden. Survivors include two sons, J.D. Harris (Xenia), White Springs, FL. and Jesse Harris (Lisa), White Springs, FL.; two daughters, Mary Wheeler, White Springs, FL. and Teresa Smith (Phillip), Ochlocknee, GA.; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandson. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 8, 2018 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home. Interment followed at Harris Family Cemetery. Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
