Joe Corbett Mitchell, age 88, of Jasper, FL. passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017 following an extended illness.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, Jasper, FL. with Rev. Ruth Elswood, Rev. Sandra Hedrick and Rev. Sheldon Steen officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper.
Joe was born on Jun. 8, 1928 in Jasper, FL. to the late Jesse and Nina Futch Mitchell. In October of 1950 he married the love of his life, Doris Milton and made their home in Jasper. Mr. Mitchell will be remembered for his years as an educator with the Hamilton County School System. He later served as finance director for the Hamilton County School District before retiring. Mr. Mitchell was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jasper where he was an elder, served as deacon and sang in the church choir. Joe Corbett honorably served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. He was a beloved husband, father and "Granddaddy" as well as a friend to so many in the community.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Doris Milton Mitchell of Jasper; his son, Rex Mitchell and his wife Karen of Jasper, FL.; his daughter, Pam and her husband Ron of Soperton, GA.; one brother, Dr. William Mitchell, III, of Jacksonville, FL.; one sister, Bessie Milton also of Jacksonville; three grandsons, Ryan Mitchell (Elizabeth), Brandon Snyder (Heather) and Patrick Mitchell (Brigitte); four great grandchildren, James Mitchell, Caroline Snyder, Jackson Snyder, Landon Snyder and another great grandson "on the way".
