JoAnn McNeill Young
JoAnn McNeill Young, age 84, of Jasper, FL. passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Advent Christian Village following an illness of some time. Martha JoAnn McNeill was born on May 25, 1935 in Laurinburg, North Carolina to the late C.C. McNeill and Ernestine Hamm McNeill. She was one of four children born to the McNeill family. She moved from Angier, North Carolina to Jasper in 1954 with her parents. She would soon meet the love of her life A.L. Young. The two became seven and her life was full of love and laughter. There was sadness as well when she and A.L. shared the loss of their son Jeffrey in a tragic accident in July of 1987. But they had two things that got them through and that was the love of a small community and the promise from God that they would see him again one day. She was one of many ladies in town that had the opportunity to gather up at Jasper Textile and actually get paid. Just listening to some of their tales makes it sound as if they would have worked for nothing so long as they could gather. JoAnn was born with a smile that immediately put you at ease and it was with that smile and a big heart that she was able to ease into her ministry at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center. A ministry that would grow to include others from her church family. JoAnn was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jasper her entire adult life. She was ever faithful and served in so many capacities. She leaves a testimony of Christ's unfailing love to her family, her church and to her community. For those that knew her well, it is easy to hold on to Psalm 30 verse 5 "Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning" and for the Young family, there will be sadness but morning has come. JoAnn the daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and sister-in-Christ you will forever be cherished. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband A.L. Young, her son Jeffrey Young and her two sisters, Nellie Mae Myatt and Linda Lou Clevenger. Survivors include three sons, Rick Young (Mantha), Alan Young (April) and John Young (Davina); her daughter, Donna Beauchamp (Randy); her daughter-in-law, Kelinda Hughes (Chris); her brother, Charles Clifford McNeill Jr. (Roberta); her brother-in-law, Jim Clevenger; special family friends, Johnnie and Angie Philman; 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews that loved her dearly. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Jasper, FL. with Rev. Roger Hutto officiating, assisted by her grandsons Arnie McCall and Justin Young who both spoke of the love and strength they witnessed in the grandmother over the years. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery. Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
