Hilda's Story

Hilda Virginia Cunningham Alderman of Thomasville, Georgia passed away on March 11, 2018 at Camellia Gardens Of Life Care. Mrs. Hilda Alderman was born in Jennings, Florida on August 26, 1926 to the late Ralph and Luna Cunningham. She married her high school sweetheart Russell Alderman. Upon completion of his service in the Navy they returned home and began farming. After starting a family, she entered college to pursue a degree in English Literature. She received a Bachelor's degree from Valdosta State College and her Masters from Florida State University. She taught 38 years in the Hamilton County School System. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was deeply loved by her family. She was a member of First Christian Church in Valdosta, GA. She enjoyed teaching, reading, serving in the church and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Alderman and daughter Sheila Alderman Hunt. Survivors include one son, Russell "Rusty" Alderman (Colleen), West Grove, PA.; one daughter, Janet Alderman Webb (Jerry), Thomasville, GA.; five grandchildren, Chesley Manning (Machelle)Thornton, CO; Christopher Hamby, Gainesville, Fl; Jaime Giddens (Johnny), Lynn Haven, FL; Byron Webb, Thomasville, GA; Tyler Webb, Athens, Ga; and two great grandchildren, Leigh Hamby, Moultrie, GA; Mason Giddens, Lynn Haven, Fl. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church in Valdosta, Georgia or Burnham Christian Church in Jennings, Florida.
