At sunset on Thursday, April 13, 2017 Doris Peterson Hutcherson, age 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and support of her family. She was lovingly attended and cared for by the staff at Shands of Live Oak and Haven Hospice of Lake City. Doris was born September 28, 1924 to godly and loving parents, John W. and Alice Harrison in Brunswick, Georgia. She graduated from Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Georgia.
She married her sweetheart D.W. (Pete) Peterson and soon thereafter began a family which remained her priority until the end. The young family moved to D.W.'s hometown of Jasper, Fl. Doris was employed at Stephen Foster Memorial in White Springs and was also a rural letter carrier for the United States Post Office in Jasper. She was a devout Christian and served faithfully as a member of Divonia Baptist Church. She was a Pink Lady and volunteered weekly at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center where she resided the last year of her life.
Doris was loved and appreciated by the community and known as a cheerful giver to many charities and local ministries. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Pete, her youngest son Danny Peterson, grandson Jeffery David Sirmans, and husbands, P.W. Simmons, and John Hutcherson. She dearly missed her departed siblings Madeline Bryson, Nelson Harrison, John Harrison, and her best friend and sister, Alma "Snooks" Livingston. She often lovingly reminisced about her joyful childhood and loving parents. She is survived by three of her children Diana Morgan (Alan), White Springs, Johnny Peterson (Carole), Jasper, Alyce Gail Howell (Carl), Greer, S.C. ; ten grandchildren: Cindy Sirmans Carter (Steve), Tracy Sirmans Thornton (Stan), Melinda Sirmans Tse (Peter), Missy Peterson Ruthardt (Ken), Jennie Howell Perry (Travis), Hamp Sirmans, David Peterson, Amber Peterson Woodward, Danny Peterson, Corky Howell (Anna Marie); twenty three great grandchildren; also surviving is her one beloved sister, Barbara Jean Drye (Warren).
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Divonia Baptist Church with Pastor Ray Shaw and Pastor Hamp Sirmans officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Haven Hospice 6037 West U.S. Hwy 90, Lake City, FL. 32055 or to Suwannee Valley Nursing Center, 427 NW 15th Ave, Jasper, FL. 32052. Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
