Amanda Deas McLain
Amanda Aveline McLain, age 87, of Valdosta, GA., passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Hospice of South Georgia following a brief illness. Mandy was born December 3, 1932 to the late John Hall Deas and Mellie Alderman Deas. It has been said that Mandy must have had a little extra kiss from the angels when she was born because she was blessed with a smile that could simply light up a room. Mandy married Merton "Mac" McLain and together they shared 64 years as husband and wife. Mandy worked as a dental hygienist for over 40 years from Athens, GA and Valdosta, GA. to Palmdale, California. Mandy was a beauty inside and out. She loved to open her home to neighborhood children or have guest join them for dinners. When they lived in California, they were so hospitable and joyfully welcomed family and friends from Jasper to come and tour California with them. She was always ready for a new adventure. Mandy was a member of Burnham Christian Church in Jennings, FL. Mandy was preceded in death by brothers, James Franklin Deas, John Hall Deas, infant brothers, Pasco and Bobby Deas as well as sisters, Eloise Parady "Tot", Juanita Dees and Wanda Deas. Mandy was blessed with a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews that loved their "Aunt Mandy". In addition to her blood relatives, Mandy was blessed with her Lithuanian family, Renaldas Smidtas and his wife, Lina Jaruseviciute Smidt and their children, Ieva Smidt, Greta Smidt, Laura Smidt and Lukas Smidtas. They brought such love and comfort into her life. They shared the ups and downs, the good, the bad and sometimes ugly but mostly they shared love and were there when Mandy needed them the most.
